KARACHI: UK Cabinet Minister and Chairperson of the British Conservative Party, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, visited the Bilquis Edhi Female Child Home in Clifton here on Friday.
She went round various section of the facility where some 300 abandoned girls in the age group of four to 20 years have been lodged and provided with education and training opportunities.
The visiting UK Minister also met with renowned social worker Maulana Abdul Sattar Edhi and his wife Bilquis Edhi.
Baroness Warsi highly appreciated the services rendered by the Edhis for the cause of humanity and the poor and needy people.
She said that she was very much pleased to meet Maulana Edhi who was serving the people without any distinction and with devotion and commitment.
Baroness Sayeeda also invited Maulana Edhi to undertake a visit to Britain.
She also inquired about the services being rendered by the Edhi Foundation.
Maulana Edhi informed the visiting UK Minister that his organisation was running 17 homes in different parts of the country and had adopted over 19,000 abandoned children.
He said Edhi Foundation was also running the ambulance service all over the country besides extending a number of other facilities to the poor and needy.
British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, Francis Campbell, was also present on the occasion.
