Mr Cameron also toured an orphanage in Rawalpindi, on the last leg of a visit that has taken in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

However, the weather put paid to his plans to travel to Pakistan's volatile north-western tribal areas, which few politicians have reached recently due to security concerns.

Helicopters carrying Mr Cameron and his party were forced to turn back when thick mist and rain made flying over mountains too dangerous.
